No I am not using dtaara(*VAR:myName)?
I am passing the 'userid' in, in an UDS.

0031.00 D                UDS                
0032.00 Duserin                   1     10A

and then do this.
C     *dtaara       define    userin        userdta          10

I get an error:
Data area *LIBL/USERIN was not found (C G D F)

This is the statement giving the error:
C                   in        userdta

I am just starting to get in to RPGLE so a lot of this is new to me.

a) Are you using DTAARA(*VAR:myName)?
b) Does the length of the data structure or variable match the length of
      the data area?
c) Does the data type of the variable match the data type of the data
      area?
d) What errors are you receiving?
e) How does your code work?
