I'm not able to do this: * QMHLJOBL api message selection information D msi ds likerec(QMHT0100) D QMHIFR00 10i 0 D QMHCMQ00 1
The purpose of LIKEREC is to create a data structure that's identical to a record in a file. That way, you copy the record image from the database directly to the data structure as one big block of memory, and it'll be mapped into the data structure, because the data structure is identical to the record format.
The ability to add your own program-defined fields to the end of the data structure would make it no longer identical, and would therefore defeat the whole purpose of using LIKEREC.
but I'm able to do this D msi E ds D QMHIFR00 10i 0 D QMHCMQ00 1
But, in this case, you're simply pulling the fields from the file, you're not trying to keep the whole record format identical. You can't use this data structure as the result field of a file i/o opcode... That makes it very different from LIKEREC
