Hi Brian,If you are going to read the subfile from top to bottom, and you're always going to read the subfile from top to bottom, then forget using RRN - you simply don't need it.
Add the SFLNXTCHG keyword in the DDS for your subfile and do NOT condition it on an indicator. This means that all records written to the subfile will be marked as changed. Any further updates will respect this status (as it can't be changed).
You can then just write a readc loop: If your subfile doesn't start at RRN 1 you don't care. If you have jumps in you RRN you don't care. If you don't know how large your subfile is you don't care.You always start at the first record written, you'll never miss a line, and you always stop at the last record written.
No worries and no joblog entries. Just one other idea to play with. :-) Cheers Larry Ducie
