No...that was my point.  Files can be updated, deleted, created,etc in
so many ways inside RPG, Java, SQL, CL (basically pick a frigging
language...) that to assume that you can reliably determine all file
processing via F spec (in rpg) DCLF in CL, etc...is just "flying by the
seat of your pants"...sooner or later you'll get bit...(unfortunately
they usually sharpen their dentures first...<vbg>

One last comment about the F spec as documentation only.  If you had an
RPGLE program that simply did:
/free
 *inlr=*on;
 cmd='CLRPFM MYFILE';
 QCMDEXC(cmd : %len(cmd));
/end-free

Would you put an F spec at the top of that one for documentation
purposes? 
 A simple Yes/No and not "I'd have written it in CL" appreciated.
