If a programmer makes a mistake such as that, then they aren't doing their job of researching before making any changes. I shouldn't have to hold the hand of future programmers looking at code. If it's an SQL based program, they should have the good sense to look for any tables being used in the program, or at least read thru the programs documentation manual for their information. It's called familarizing yourself with a program before you make any changes. And I was guilty of bypassing it a few years back before I was called aside by one of the senior programmers and basically told, if you make a mistake like that again because you didn't research what effect your changes would have on the overall scope of the program, I'll cut your ... out. To paraphrase of course. Even if I only have to make a simple one line change now, I still take the time to look thru the program to get a handle on what's going on, and what effect if any my change would have on other parts of the code.
