Yes, you can conclude that RPG/400 has a limitation of 0-9 decimals for a
number - this is well documented in the RPG/400 Reference manual.

But I really have to question the statement "because of the large number of
programs and also regression risk". RPG IV is now 11 years old and this is a
statement coming from a company that "is a global leader in IT services"
(from their web site).

To convert a 100 RPG III program to RPG IV and recompile them on my little
iSeries takes all of 7 minutes.
What regression risk? There is NO regression risk.

Sigh. After 11 years....

I am facing problems with RPG/400 programs.

This field is defined as 12,9 (packed) in PF and I need to change it to
15,12. DDS compiles for the PF and when I try to promote, some RPG/400
programs get pulled for re-compilation. I have not defined this field
explicitly in C-Specs or I-Specs.

I have already checked about converting RPG/400 to RPG-IV, I don't have a go
on that because of the large number of programs and also regression risk.

Should I conclude that RPG/400 has a limitation (can't handle a precision of
more than 9 decimals)

Maybe he's using RPG III with an internally defined file.

Can RPG III handle an externally defined file with more than 9 decimal
positions?

If so, can you use the LIKE opcode to define a RPG III with more than 9
decimal positions?

Note that the "decimal positions" column for RPG III I-specs and C-specs is
only one digit.
