Actually I do like combining the
Set options,
Prepare (if necessary),
Declare,
and Open
into one subprocedure.  Although I don't believe that Declare modifies 
SQLSTT.  In fact, in programs without a Prepare it would fail because 
SQLSTT was initialized to all blanks and not '00000'.  Maybe Prepare 
modifies it.  I do a sqlstt=*all'0' in my first subprocedure.
