It depends on the type of programme to use READC or read each SFL record, that 
besides.

I think it is more efficient to have the system test the MDT attribute of the 
SFL record, then read each record and test it for changes, especially a "Work 
with ..."-screen, where you only can type in options to perform a function 
(call another porgramme) 

But then, using field exit marks the record as changed, IIRC, so it may not 
make a difference.

Just my thoughts.
