yes, you can convert it into decimal field using %dec bif.  The question would 
be, in the program how do you assign the result of %dec to a variable that 
match the one in the database.  
Remember that in the method and Shannon and I described, the program eventually 
need to use %subst to assigned the value back to the field in the datastructure.
