Yes, I have to maintain RPG/III code. The base source code of a PGM is treated with a pre-compiler utility, that will convert "macros" into true statements. For example: C*>IFKEY F12 will beturned in testing the numeric value of the hex, not using the AID byte from the INFDS or using a decent a decent SELECT/WHEN (terrible lint of ENDIFS at the end). I could give you a list of stupidities (my opinion, of course) in the generated code for compilation. The origin of the tool is based on RPG on the S/38, as it was developped in about 1988. A conversion to RPG/IV was made, but the truth is no maintainace on the tool whatsoever. A rewrite of the programmes might be a better option.
