Thanks for the suggestion, but that produced the same error as I had 
before.  I'm not sure that it matters if the *Next is coded in the first 
Overlay field or not.  Ever since I recently started using Overlay, I have 
always put the *Next in all the fields.  A different example being: (which 
has worked for me)

 D DSName          DS
 D   Field                      9A 
 D   Part1                      3A   Overlay(Field: *Next)
 D   Part2                      3A   Overlay(Field: *Next)
 D   Part3                      3A   Overlay(Field: *Next) 

But as Rob pointed out, I could put Overlay(DSName) on the FIELD 
definition, instead of the Partx, and that will compile (although I 
haven't tested it yet).
