Right, the /%need%/ variable in the HTML page is blank. Is the CGI/Web
list the one called WEB400, or is it another one? I searched the WEB400
archives for updHtmlVar2 and came up empty. Sorry if I'm asking the
wrong question in this list; I'm new here and have only been developing
on the iSeries for less than a year. Could someone provide a quick code
sample of using updHtmlVar2?

This is best for the CGI/Web list, but
Is "NEED" supposed to be in lower case? 'need'???
Also UpdHtmlVar doesn't "return" values, so I'm assuming you mean the
data
in the HTML for the /%NEED%/ substitution variable is not getting the
data
you expect?

Here's what I tried. It doesn't fail, just returns blanks:

d prjneed         s           2980a
d ptrlen            s              10i 0
d ptrneed         s               *

then

prjneed = WREQNEED;
ptrneed = %addr(prjneed);
updHtmlVar2('need': ptrneed : ptrlen);
