short answer: "no".

long answer: "no, this is not possible without either creating a logical 
or using embedded SQL"

very long answer: "you don't need to read the file until the end, you can 
stop reading once you've reached and updated the record".

I have this situation where I need to update a particular record in a
file (Arrival sequence with no keys) without reading it fully. That
particular record can be anywhere in the file. Is it possible to do this
through RPGLE without creating any logical file for the file and also
without using SQLRPGLE.
