Rob, Thanks for pointing me to this utility. It really helped us get a grip on what we needed for parms. I'm definitely making progress now. I determined that I could connect anonymously- however, I don't have authority to search with anonymous. I finally got credentials entered the way I need for myself and can get a search to work. Where I'm at now, is I can search on my profile, but I'm not able to search anyother profile. I will have to check with my network admin when he arrives this morning. Then I stepped back and restudied your situation. First of all, try using this utility to test access to your ldap: http://www.ldapadministrator.com/download/index.php?PHPSESSID=5d0ff41a37 ba6f8ffc3d4148e779d54b Verify that the user and password that you enter, to bind to the ldap and be able to do searches, work. Verify that you even need a user id and a password. Now, once you've done that, verify that these lines of code apply to your situation: D LOGIN_ACCT C 'cn=Administrator' D LOGIN_PASSWD C 'keepwishing' The bind is working spot on. Until you mucked with the ip address it was telling you that something was wrong with your credentials. That leads me to believe it was the above. Don't you think so? From Scott's message I understand that I should receive a pointer back on the init regardless. But I have noticed that changing ld= ldap_init(xxx.xxx.x.xx:LDAP_PORT) to Ld= ldap_init(xxx.xxx.xx.x:LDAP_PORT) Will give me a different error on the Bind. I go from 'Invalid credentials' to 'Can't contact Ldap Server'. So is something else happening with the INIT besides creating a new copy of the data structure? It's the ldap_simple_bind_s. I've been looking at a couple of examples that Scott Klement posted, but I'm having some problems. I really don't know much about LDAP, so I'm kinda fumbling around. Reading documentation, if I understand correctly, I should be able to query a non-iseries LDAP Also, the LDAP_INIT should return a *NULL if request was not successful. So, I started putting erroneous values as a Host name like c eval ld = ldap_init('NOGOOD': LDAP_PORT) However I still get a pointer back. Why? It seems I can put any value as the first parm and still not return a *NULL. Is there anyway to verify that what is returned is correct?
