CLI is supposed to work with those platforms but first the Oracle, SQL
etc need to be configured for DRBA.
Oracle, as I understand it, can also talk to the iSeries via a gateway
product available from Oracle.

SQL server can also communicated directly to the iSeries via client
access and ODBC.  The iSeries tables are defined as linked tables to the
SQL Server.   My experience with this technique has resulted in a stable
and reliable interface between the iSeries and SQL server provided that
you don't mind developing data transfers as a push/pull from SQL server.

That is true.  I guess, I mean to say, ODBC driver for some of the
popular database such as Oracle, mySQL, MS SQL...

They did provide a very close resemblance.  It's called CLI.

Two options:
1) Third party program that resides on a PC
2) Use Java and a JDBC driver
