Hi Carel,

How would you do this in a Web interface? You would proces this probably in a FORM with action POST or GET which will be activated on SUBMIT. This is similar to the block mode processing of a 5250 data stream, methinks. Unless, a javascript (on-exit event) on the input field allows connection to the AS/400 for verification and fetching the required data.

Depends on the criteria for judging it a "valid ticket number" (what the original poster was asking for)

If there are a relatively small number of ticket numbers that are valid, then I'd make it a drop-down selection box (<select> and <option> tags in HTML) so there wouldn't be any chance of typing one that's invalid.

If not, you could have JavaScript send the form data in a manner similar to the way CHECK(ER) works, but it would be able to signal to the program the difference between a "field exit" and "enter" (unlike 5250.)

Obviously with a full blown GUI, you could query a database immediately when the user exited, which would be better yet.
