Scott,

your V5R3 example will not work as %Int does not accept the second
parameter. You need to use %Dec instead.

On V5R3:
     myVar = %dec(%date(): *USA);

On V5R3:
     myVar = %int(%date(): *USA);

On V5R2:
     myVar = %int(%char(%date(): *USA0));

Search the archives for more examples of converting date fields to numeric 
fields.
