>I'm curious as to others' view on using the RPG cycle anymore, or the >value in learning it for newcomers. I'm not even that sure myself. An often-heard advice to Java-newbies is: Start programming with just a simple text editor and the compiler. Only when you understand what is going on, start enjoying the luxury of an IDE. With RPG it could be: start programming a list of orders with totals per order and per customer. When you understand what is going on, start enjoying the luxury of the cycle. Maybe it shouldn't be called cycle anymore, but 'Database Wizard'. (Change the input indicators to named events and change the subroutines to event handlers and everything will be shiny and new.)
