Tom, If the data access is to go through ODBC, I guess a simple MS Access .mdb would suffice. And cause less overhead than SQL Server. Thanks for the suggestion anyway. I'd figure there are some to choose from. As for SQL, you can download and install the Microsoft MSDE version of SQL Server for free. The administrative interface is gone, there are limits on how many instances you can have, table maximum sizes are limited, etc., but it's real stuff as far as application access is concerned -- e.g., ODBC. Command-line access can be via the OSQL command. Somewhat similar to interactive SQL on iSeries without prompting. (More of us need to play with this stuff anyway.) Tom Liotta
