I think what you need is:
c *lock in(e) rec#dta
c dow %error
c *lock in(e) rec#dta
c enddo
c eval rec#dta = rec#dta + 1
c eval precpt# = rec#dta
c out rec#dta
might want to add some sort of a time out of course.
