Yes it is a drag.

I am sure it's defined elsewhere.  However I thought this was not a 
problem.  Because these routines have been in place for quite some time 
now.  It was last regenerated 3/31/04 and it wasn't a problem then.

I'd better just open a problem.

It's a drag the way the pre-compiler gives up on the first variable the 
way it does. 
 
Are you sure the variable exchange isn't defined elsewhere in the program? 
 Host variable names have global scope in the module being created, even 
if the variable itself only has local scope.
