All,

I have a record locking issue that I wanted to try and get some feedback
on. I must be overlooking something, but I'm not sure what...

I have a program that chains to a file. If the chain is coded with no
error handling as follows...

C kddmast chain rddmast

...and as I would expect, if the record is locked I get the following
errors in my job log and the job goes to MSGW...

Record 148 in use by job 365563/USER/QPADEV000D.
? C
Record 148 in use by job 365563/USER/QPADEV000D.
? C
Unable to allocate a record in file DDMAST.
Function check. RNX1218 unmonitored by DDACCTMOD at statement
0000041800,
    instruction X'0000'.
  Unable to allocate a record in file DDMAST (R C G D F).

If the chain is coded as follows (I don't really care what the error
is...just that I can't get the record for whatever reason)...

C kddmast chain(e) rddmast
C if %error
C eval mscode = 8888
C exsr getmsgs
C leave
C endif

I get the following errors in my job log, BUT the program does not error
and continues on...

Record 148 in use by job 365563/USER/QPADEV000D.
? C
Record 148 in use by job 365563/USER/QPADEV000D.
? C

So, if I have the program coded to exit and return an error on any I/O
problem, then why is the system not allowing the program to take control
and exit?

The 'Record nnn is un use by job...' message is CPF5027 (first one is
Sender Copy, and second one is Notify, both are sev 30)
The 'Unable to allocate a record...' messages are RNX1218 (Escape) and
RNQ1218 (Sender Copy) respectively and both are sev 99.

Any ideas?

Regards,
Dane
