I went to www.amazon.com and did a search for "subfile" and found several
books on the subject without any problems.

I wish I could recommend one book over another -- but, alas, I learned
subfiles long before RPG IV was released and haven't needed to purchase a
book on the subject.

However, Amazon always has comments from people who have bought the book,
and how they rate it.  Those might prove helpful -- even if you don't buy
it from Amazon! :)
