Tony, I have file I/O service programs where I pass the data structures back and forth from/to calling programs and have found the 'reading into' and 'writing from' data structures method works great. I 'qualify' all of these data structures, which makes for more typing. I also name the data structures so that I know I am using the appropriate one: FileAIDs would be what I read. FileAODs would be what I write. In a previous post you had talked about comparing like-named fields from like-named files. Using 'read into' data structures you could: Read FileAFmt FileAIDs : Read FileBFmt FileBIDs ; If FileAIDs.Part# = FileBIDs.Part# ; Do Something ; EndIf ; Tim
