Scott,

Paul and others are doing the pre-conference RPG IV Orientation workshop on
Sunday prior to the start of RPG World. Of course the rest of the conference
is loaded with cools stuff too. The agenda may be downloaded at:

This past spring, at RPG World in Chicago, Paul Tuohy did a whole series
on learning RPG IV for RPG III programmers. I would definitely recommend
that series, but I don't know if he's intending to repeat it at the RPG
World that's coming up towards the end of this month. I don't see it in
the preliminary agenda -- but I'll let him answer. :)

There's still a lot of useful stuff on the preliminary agenda, such as the
definition spec, protototypes, date logic, expressions and BIFs, etc.
These subjects are really the ones that people get stuck on when making
the move from III to IV.

Naturally, you'd want to be careful where you sent him. If his first
session on RPG IV is "Pointers and User Spaces" he's likely to throw in
the hat. :)

Another alternative is Bryan Meyers' upcoming Web class entitled "RPG IV
for RPG Programmers" I haven't watched this class personally so I haven't
had
a chance to form opinions of it. What I can tell you is that it's an
"e-Learning" session that runs over the Web, and that orientation for the
class needs to be done by Sept 7th.

If that interests you, there's more info here:

o&section_id=1116

Aside from those two things, my only recommendations are books. I've got
some good ones listed here:

Good luck!
