Hi Ewart, I don't know why you are apologizing, I'm just glad you read the article :-). I'm afraid there is no technique (that I know of) to solve your problem - if the field has a different length on the display file, then it is a different field and should have a different name. I don't subscribe to the yahoo group (only so many hours in the day), but I had a quick look at the thread and I didn't see anything to make me change my mind :-) - then again, only my point of view. If the debate starts here I'll gladly join in.
