the U in the UDS part of the I spec means you are accessing the LDA, not the LAVGCL data area. I do not remember the old syntax to declare a data area in I spec (I only use D spec for several years now). You will need to lookup the manual. Good luck Denis Robitaille Directeur services technique TI 819 363 6130 SUPPORT Jour (EST) Daytime : 819-363-6134 En-dehors des heures (EST) After hour : 819-363-6158 Network Status : 819-363-6157 >>> newman400@xxxxxxxxxxx 2004-07-29 12:28:13 >>> I'm hoping someone can take a look at this and tell me what I'm doing wrong before I pull what's left of the rest of my hair out. I created a data area called LAVGCL defined as follows: Data area: LAVGCL Library: JIMDATA Type: *DEC Length: 5 2 Text: Limit - Average Close Value: 15.00 In my RPG program I declare it as follows: I LAVGCL UDS I 1 5 2 AVGCLL When I attempt to run the program I get this message: The INQRPG *INIT data area LAVGCL type or length does not match program data area I printed the dump and it shows the following: AVGCLL 000256 ZONED(5,2) '4040404040'X LAVGCL 000251 CHAR(5) ' ' The problem is the blanks in a numeric field; the question is how did they get there and what do I do to solve the problem?
