Bingo. The DDS can change based on new data entry into the driver file. If they add more causes and remedies then the selection in the main file increases using spare fields. This data is then transferred to a warehouse file nightly using the pgms I'm creating now to do so, and the user uses Showcase product to run query's. Instead of having column headings such as Spare1, Spare2, we are using the driver file a field called description as the headings. Thanks all for the help, I'm pretty sure I'm on the right track now. :) Cheers. And BTW, I'm on the nicoderm patch now lol. Ron Power Programmer Information Services City Of St. John's, NL P.O. I believe I have a pretty good guess about the nature of the file, as our own Wintouch product does similar things: the programmatically-generated DDS is used to generate a customizable database for a customizable product.
