The result field should be large enough to hold the largest possible value you could have. In other words, 17,6 if you added two numbers say 3,0 each, 999 + 999 = 1998 which would be a 4,0 field. Because they are all the same length, the resulting field could be a whole lot larger. 17,6 largest value would be 999999999.999999 so you can figure out what you might need to use for the result.
