Bruce, If you don't want to write wrapper CL program around the RTVNETA command, you could use the C functions (that wrap the MI instructions) or the RPG xTools service program to get the network attributes. For example: /COPY qcpysrc, sysvalue .....DName+++++++++++EUDS.......Length+TDc.Functions+++++++++++++++++++ D SysName S 10A D SrlNbr S 10A .....CSRn01..............OpCode(ex)Extended-factor2++++++++++++++++++++ C eval SysName = GetSysName() C eval SrlNbr = GetSrlNbr() -Bob Cozzi www.rpgxtools.com -----Original Message----- From: rpg400-l-bounces@xxxxxxxxxxxx [mailto:rpg400-l-bounces@xxxxxxxxxxxx] On Behalf Of Bruce Odum Sent: Wednesday, June 23, 2004 8:49 AM To: RPG programming on the AS400 / iSeries Subject: RE: RPG-FREE calling CL program Your correct I have never used it for anything else but to call a program passing parms or a command passing parms never expecting to receive a value back. No RTVxxx command has ALLOW(*EXEC). Think about it ... you are passing a character string to system() ... how do you suppose it will address a variable?
