Brad,
It should get '^^^^^^Data^^^^^' if the right-side is a fixed-length field
the entire field (blanks and all) are copied into the VARYING field. If the
right-side is also VARYING then its current-length of bytes is copied.
If the right-side is a literal, the entire literal is copied.
So unless you're using %TRIMR or %TRIML or %TRIM your results are
unexpected.

Subject: Variable Length Field Question

Ok,

Assume I have field varField defined as Varying in an RPG
program.

Now I say:

eval varField = '^^^^^^Data^^^^^'

(Each ^ is a blank)

Should varField then equal:

"^^^^^^Data"

or

"Data"

If the latter, why? And how can I get it to equal the
prior? My testing shows I am getting the latter (no
preceeding spaces).

Thanks!

Brad
