Charles, I don't think it has anything to do with the testing procedure: I create the 'select' LF, log off, log back on, call the program, and it takes a looooong time to display. Then I compile the 'omit' version, log off, back on, call the program, and 'poof', there's the data within one second. Curiouser and curiouser (I think Alice said something like this). Thus the omits gets to take advantage of the data already being in memory. I know I've seen some instructions before somewhere on how to do performance comparisons.
