Failure to document, is bad coding practice. IMHO. -----Original Message----- From: Walden H. Leverich [mailto:WaldenL@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx] Sent: Monday, April 26, 2004 10:02 AM To: RPG programming on the AS400 / iSeries Subject: RE: ILE code efficiency Rob, As others have pointed out, that's a rather open-ended question. However, far be it for me to keep my mouth shut, so... IMnsHO, it's always been true, and even more so now with the speed of the iSeries boxes, that the efficiency of programmers should take priority over the efficiency of code. Look, with rare exception, we're not writing real-time performance critical applications on the iSeries. What's important from an efficiency point of view is that your programmers can take a business requirement and implement it before the business changes so much that the solution isn't needed anymore. And that, perhaps even more important, when another programmer goes to change that code in 5 years they can tell what it's doing and change it w/o breaking it. Write code that is well-structured and well thought out, and you'll gain more "efficiency" then you'll ever gain deciding between a GOTO, an EXSR, a procedure in a *MOD and a service program. -Walden ------------ Walden H Leverich III President & CEO Tech Software (516) 627-3800 x11 WaldenL@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx http://www.TechSoftInc.com Quiquid latine dictum sit altum viditur.
