Mike, There was a discussion concerning this on the list about a year ago IIRC. I don't recall all the details but the main point was that the SQLCOD could return a 'no error' condition when there was actually an error. I believe it was also mentioned that the previous functionality was at least in part attributable to a bug in the way SQLCOD was handled by IBM. IBM made changes to the way errors are returned with V5R1 and now recommends using SQLSTT. SQLSTT is the SQL standard for returning and checking error messages. Maybe someone else remembers more of the details. I have always used SQLCOD then if it is +-100 (don't remember which) then there is no results, if it is 0 everything is okay, if it is anything else, then there is a problem. I catch a lot of my oopsies this way. 2) Check the value of SQLSTT after the PREPARE FROM: C/EXEC SQL C+ PREPARE S1 FROM :sqlstatement C/END-EXEC if sqlstt <> '00000' // uh-oh... There is an example of dynamic SQL in the FAQ at http://faq.midrange.com Search for 'indirect' --buck _______________________________________________ This is the RPG programming on the AS400 / iSeries (RPG400-L) mailing list To post a message email: RPG400-L@xxxxxxxxxxxx To subscribe, unsubscribe, or change list options, visit: http://lists.midrange.com/mailman/listinfo/rpg400-l or email: RPG400-L-request@xxxxxxxxxxxx Before posting, please take a moment to review the archives at http://archive.midrange.com/rpg400-l. _______________________________________________ This is the RPG programming on the AS400 / iSeries (RPG400-L) mailing list To post a message email: RPG400-L@xxxxxxxxxxxx To subscribe, unsubscribe, or change list options, visit: http://lists.midrange.com/mailman/listinfo/rpg400-l or email: RPG400-L-request@xxxxxxxxxxxx Before posting, please take a moment to review the archives at http://archive.midrange.com/rpg400-l.
