The local data area (*LDA) is 1024 bytes long.
You can use a UDS data structure to implicitly retrieve the *LDA...

Examples:

In RPG400:
0002.01       I           UDS
0002.02       I                                        1  10 NAME

In RPGIV:
0002.00  D                UDS
0003.00  D  NAME                   1     10
