What could possibly be considered self documenting about performing a mathematical operation on a date? Particularly a multiplication!! As to everyone knowing it - no they don't thank goodness. During the Y2K period when I was teaching conversion topics I found that only about one in two RPGers had seen it let alone knew what it did. It is non-intuitive, and performs like a pig.
