%DEC only works if the value is pretty clean; otherwise, you get a runtime error message. Even leading blanks can cause a problem with %DEC. -----Original Message----- From: rpg400-l-bounces@xxxxxxxxxxxx [mailto:rpg400-l-bounces@xxxxxxxxxxxx] On Behalf Of Duane Kehoe Sent: Tuesday, February 24, 2004 9:51 AM To: RPG programming on the AS400 / iSeries Subject: Re: Moving Char field to Numeric field right justified Is that because of the ((( at the end of the char field, or because of something else? I have use %DEC before in situations similar to this(minus the ((( ) without issue maybe I have just been lucky and need to change my code :-[ . Bob Cozzi wrote: The %DEC built-in function will blow up on this conversion. Do not use it for that. But if you are on V5R2, you could use %INT instead of atoll() as I suggested earlier, but still do the %SUBST and CHECK opcodes first. -Bob Cozzi -----Original Message----- From: rpg400-l-bounces@xxxxxxxxxxxx [mailto:rpg400-l-bounces@xxxxxxxxxxxx] On Behalf Of Duane Kehoe Sent: Tuesday, February 24, 2004 9:15 AM To: RPG programming on the AS400 / iSeries Subject: Re: Moving Char field to Numeric field right justified Take a look at the %DEC built in Function for RPG IV available on V5R2 it does exactly what you need, hope this helps. There are other BIFs for this type of move as well checkout the IBMs site(iSeries Information Center - don't have the link sorry). Using arrays, I moved the data in a numeric array but array does not allow me to move it to a numeric field directly. E.g. MOVEA array numfld.
