In RPG IV, your specific situation could be solved with this type of
operation:

C '0123456789' CHECK MyCharFld EndPos
C if EndPos > 0
C eval myNumFld = atoll(%subst(myCharFld:1:EndPos))

For info on how to prototype the atoll() function, go to:

Subject: Moving Char field to Numeric field right justified

Hi

Can anybody suggest me the way to move a Char field (9 length) with numeric
data to Numeric field (9 length) right justified?

e.g.

Input field
'123456((('

Output expected
000123456

Since output field is numeric, it will not show leading zeros. Using arrays,
I moved the data in a numeric array but array does not allow me to move it
to a numeric field directly. E.g. MOVEA array numfld.

Please help.
