Correct. Full null field support, that is ALWNULL(*FULL), is something we've wanted to add to the language for a long time. But it's a lot of work in design, implementation, and testing. And it wouldn't be entirely upwards compatible from existing code that uses null capable database fields.

But lately there have been some minor incremental improvements to the ALWNULL(*USRCTL) support that you might not be aware of. For example, in V5R2, null capable subfields of LIKEREC data structures and externally described data structures have an associated null flag.
