INLINE would be great.  Just guessing, it appears that the built in number
is the ILE way of INLINEing a proc.  I would like to understand how built
ins work.

( the fact that the incorrect signature on the MI built ins causes the
compiler to crash is interesting.  it indicates that the rpg compiler is
designed for code to be inserted inline without the compiler knowing
anything about the form of the inline code. )

I think you're talking about in-line code or rather inline procedures.
I think IBM has that on our wish list for RPG IV, if/when we ever get
overloaded procedures, I would anticipate also getting an INLINE keyword on
procedures too.
