Hi Grizzly, > Is there much of a performance difference between SQL and OPNQRYF? I heavily investigated the best performing routine for a person search program back in 1998. The database held about 7 million persons and it was pretty much the same whether i opened it with SQL or with OPNQRYF. The program had to give back 50 persons in maximum. There were slight advantages with OPNQRYF, though, and so i coded it with OPNQRYF. Maybe it's better with SQL today, but a long time these two were just two doors into the same house. But the most important part was that i ended up creating 17 logical files with different keys that i never used in the application, but these make the OPNQRYF (or SQL) fly. Instead of an average 8 minutes for a search, making the client/server application with a time-out of 5 minutes unusable, the search takes about an average 0.7 seconds. The debug mode told me what it wanted for every different search i made. 0.02 Euro -- Mit freundlichen Grüssen / best regards Anton Gombkötö Organisation und Projektleitung Avenum Technologie GmbH Wien - Salzburg - Stuttgart http://www.avenum.com
