Not every one. Since learning RPG II in the 70's, I've always considered the indicator on a READx opcode to be end of file, and I "read" the source that way when reading indicator laden code. That is, I think to myself "indicator xx is end of file", while for a CHAIN my mental note is "indicator xx is no record found". As such, I have over 20 years of mentally equating READx to EOF and CHAIN to NRF, so the transition to %EOF and %FOUND was trivial. Besides, assuming things is almost always bad. :) Doug
