The aspect that stumped me was that the file should have gotten closed when the activation group ended. But I think the red herring here is that the first program used the default activation group, and the normal rules don't quite apply when that's involved. Best to keep well away from the default activation group once you're into true ILE programming.

Anyways, I hope you're not advocating keeping business logic and display logic together. If anything, perhaps one problem here is that they weren't separated enough!

Now, on to the next impossible problem! ;-)
