vi is a "visual editor".  A giant improvement over the earlier editors 
in wich you needed to write something like "insert after line N .xxxx" 
and you needed to remeber the line numbers from the last time you tiped 
the file.

It takes some practice to use vi, but once you know the comands it is 
quite powerfull and efficient.  You can acomplish a lot in litle time, 
usualy faster than using more sofisticated editors.
