How about an SEU emacs mode?  It could even have a built in syntax 
checker (look, I'm on topic!).  vi could have one too.  You could even 
plug in your own favorite code beautifier to make /free look nice.  And 
built in code highlighting/coloring if that's your thing.  All we really 
need is:

CRTRPGMOD SOURCE(/somewhere/on/the/ifs) OUTPUT(LIBRARY/OBJECT)
