David, I have a routine that tokenizes a String into array elements. In order to do what you are asking the routine would have to know the exact data structure layout and field names so it doesn't seem likely, but you could easily loop through this array and populate your specific DS. Maybe you could even do a nifty pointer trick to make it automagic, but it hurts my head to think of that right now... Hre's the doc, see if this will help: http://www.rpgnext.com/docs/rnbstring.php#getTokens Joel http://www.rpgnext.com On Fri, 2003-10-10 at 20:10, David Gibbs wrote: > Anyone know of a technique, or routine, that will take a variable > length, delimited, string of data and parse it into a data structure? > > Ideally, I would like to have the data structure externally defined ... > and have the parsed values placed in each field sequentially. > > I could probably write something myself, but if there's code out there > already, why reinvent the wheel? > > Thanks! > > david > > > _______________________________________________ > This is the RPG programming on the AS400 / iSeries (RPG400-L) mailing list > To post a message email: RPG400-L@xxxxxxxxxxxx > To subscribe, unsubscribe, or change list options, > visit: http://lists.midrange.com/mailman/listinfo/rpg400-l > or email: RPG400-L-request@xxxxxxxxxxxx > Before posting, please take a moment to review the archives > at http://archive.midrange.com/rpg400-l.
