First of all, your emailer is placing imbedded html in the email that is wrong. Makes the email look like garbage. Now, just because the program describes the file as program described, doesn't mean it is not externally defined. Some people liked to do it this way for any number of reasons, most of them invalidated with V5R2 of OS/400. Try using some of the commands that you mentioned to see if they work fine. If not then there are a few things you can do. One, is to create a logical over the physical file that uses substring, etc to break the fields apart. Numbers might be a real challenge to work right. You might play with creating the logical file with SQL versus DDS. This will allow you to use UDF's that might do a better job of processing the numbers.
