%EOF is not set by CHAIN, it sets %FOUND.

You can either put a 'IF %FOUND' before your loop or use SETLL followed by
READE.

I would recommend *against* using CHAIN and IF %FOUND *unless* the loop is changed from DOW to DOU, otherwise %EOF is either in an indeterminate state or at the status of whatever the last operation was that set %EOF.


Before the BIFs I used to use a CHAIN/READE combination myself. Now I've switched to using SETLL+READE in place of the CHAIN so that there is no ambiguity about the status of %EOF.
