To do it with O Specs. you need to know the following 

"Each printer "Make" has it's own language and sometime the language 
changes 
within models."

Also that printer should have manual to show the "necessary escape sequences 
that tell the printer to do something". 
And show how to define the different bar code types. 

Code escape sequences in your O Specs then code bar code for field or 
fields inside those. During run of program except detail with escape 
sequences, except bar code, etc.

Hope this points you in right direction.
 I think it is time to change program to use External Printer file. Would 
save you/them a lot of time and trouble later.
