Hello Peter,

You could use the QUSLFLD API and a couple of Edit APIs to retrieve most field
data types from a record buffer. The C record I/O functions would also give you
an easy and flexible access to retrieve the record buffer of any file specified
at runtime.

I've written a sample procedure that outlines the process and also examplifies
the record retrieval by key. You could possible use that as a starting point
for your XML tool - let me know if you want a copy.

Best regards,
Carsten Flensburg

Subject: %fieldvalue BIF (follow-up to "User space, outfile or workfile")

Dear all,

I need some further help in my quest for the "universal PF to XLS" tool.

What I want to do is assign a value to a variable, whereby the value comes
from a field name which is in another variable.

This example sort of shows what I want to do:

/free
Field2 = %fieldvalue(field1);
/end-free

whereby field1 contains "FIELD3".
